Fiona Apple
Extraordinary Machine

MiniReview by LouV

Exceptional album. Best I've heard this year. It's different -- harking back to the thirties, the words are clever as usual, and she weaves them into the songs well. It's just great fun to listen to.

I like both the album and the leaked album. It's fun comparing. Certain songs I like better on the original leaked -- 'Not About Love' (love the way her voice quivers on the leaked version) and 'Get Him Back'; certain songs I like better on the final version ('Red, Red, Red' and 'Window').

Buying the dual CD/DVD is a must -- on the DVD you get treated to live performances of songs at Largo, including a performance with Nickel Creek. The video is shot well -- just straight up video of the performances, no jumping around all over the place. Also on the DVD is the 'Not About Love' video, which is a hoot and a half. It has catapulted into my top 5 video list of all time, up there with Beastie Boys' "Sabatoge", Paula Abdul's "Hit and Run", and Madonna's "Strike a Pose".

Fiona Apple continues to make brilliant, sophisticated, and fun to listen to music. She is a treasure of our generation.
