Quote of the Week

A collection of great quotes, gathered as they come up.

"I don't look at life through the lens of self-doubt. I just don't. I never have."

-- Scott Skiles, coach of the Chicago Bulls, after his team lost to the NYKnicks and finds itself at 2-9 to start the 2007-2008 NBA season. Postscript: Scott Skiles was fired as head coach of the Chicago Bulls a month later, on December 23, 2007. The team's record at the time was 9-16.

"This is Staten Island, I could swing a dead cat around my head, and every fifth person I would hit is organized crime."

-- Curtis Sliwa, Tuesday, February 12, 2008. Curtis was talking about the recent bust of 50 members of the Gambino crime family, word that Staten Islander Joseph Vollaro had ratted them out, and that Vollaro's wife, Trisha, didn't know anything about his alleged mob ties, according to her family. The day earlier, Joseph Vollaro was spotted at the Sushi restaurant next door to his wife's Docks Restaurant in Tottenville, Staten Island, even though he was in the Witness Protection Program and his wife had claimed she didn't know what happened to him.

"When we start getting it going on the Garden floor, playing defense and hitting the open man, we're tough to beat."

-- David Lee, power forward of the NY Knicks after the Knicks beat the Toronto Raptors 103-99 on February 22nd, 2008, at Madison Square Garden. It brought the Knicks record to 17-38 on the season.
