A
Good Article for You:
Dick
Sheppard (July 9, 2002):
Would
refer you to Victor David Hanson's article in today's (July 9, 2002) Wall
Street Journal (www.opinionjournal.com) for an excellent analysis of how
the United States is gradually coming to realize that Saudi Arabia doesn't
act like a friend so much as a radical, backward, and ultimately doomed
state. What, Mr. Allagany, what will the children of Saudi Arabia do when
the oil runs out? Will they end up like your Palestinian friends? Or will
they adapt to a more modern, pluralistic and promising world?
Regards,
Dick Sheppard

You:

Allagany, of Saudi Embassy to US (July 9):
Thank you
Dick. I haven't had a chance to read that article yet, but I'm
sure it contains the same old re-hashed
nonsense which has been written about
Saudi Arabia the past several months.

The
fact is, Saudi Arabia has had a
great relationship with the US for the past 70 years. Anyone who
tells you the US-Saudi relationship is
based on oil is greatly oversimplifying
things. Saudi Arabia's relationship with the US runs much much
deeper than oil.
Saudi
Arabia is not really worried about running out of oil. What is much
more likely to happen is that
alternate sources of energy will be harnessed. Saudi Arabia is
already working hard to advance technology in developing alternate
energy sources such as solar power.
Saudi
Arabia has made great strides in becoming less dependent on its oil
industry. If we go back 30 years, about 80% of our government
revenue came from oil.
That figure is now down to about 40%. We will keep chipping away
at it. All countries have challenges
they have to meet, and this is one of ours.
If Mr. Hanson has an axe to grind, so be it. We have an old Arabic
saying - The caravan passes, and the
dogs bark.
Best
regards.

I
love that old Arabic saying, I can't believe the dude is using old
Arabic
sayings in something as critical
as these issues.

The
Caravan passes. The dogs bark.
Love
it.
What
the f_ck does it mean?
All
my life I've wanted a solar powered waterfall in my backyard. This
past
weekend I spent most of it
finally building the waterfall.
I
plan on using straight electricity to power the pump.

A
solar powered water fall? Oh, Loo, you've gone greenpeace on me,
brodeen.
I
love that you are using the straight juice from the outlet though.
